SUMMARY:Merz Trio
DESCRIPTION:A Classic Concert Series Event\nPresenting Sponsorship provided by Bonnie and Jamie Schaefer\, Christine Petti\, and Neil and Nancy SchaffelPrincipal Sponsorship provided by App State Campus Store\, Broyhill Family Foundation\, Catsman Foundation\, and Mast General Store \n \n \n \n \n \n Brigid Coleridge\, ViolinJulia Yang\, CelloAmy Yang\, Piano \nHailed as “entrancing” (BBC Music Magazine) and “artists in the deepest sense of the word” (CutCommon)\, Merz Trio\, winners of the Naumburg\, Concert Artists Guild\, Fischoff and Chesapeake Competitions\, and recipients of a Salon de Virtuosi Career Grant\, have been lauded for their “stunning virtuosity… fresh and surprising interpretations” (Reading Eagle)\, and “perfection of intonation and ensemble” (Hudson Review). Merz Trio are passionately committed to reshaping the narrative of classical music through vibrantly dynamic programming and wide-ranging interdisciplinary collaboration. Their narrative programming style juxtaposes classical standards\, new music\, and their own arrangements of familiar and forgotten works\, fluidly interwoven and guided with speaking from the Trio’s members. \nPROGRAMClara’s Circle \nThis program traces friendship through the steps of Clara Wieck Schumann\, from 1857-1859\, by way of flowers. It reflects sentiments from her Blumentagebuch – her diary of pressed flowers – in which Clara left dedications to meaningful people and moments in her life. This precious book accompanied her as she toured throughout Europe and served as a record of relationships\, mourning and memory. Moving amongst Clara’s floral meditations\, we explore floriography in its romantic heyday and delight in the coded and the unspoken. With Clara\, we visit Robert\, Beethoven and Brahms\, and bring in a musical friend of our own\, Chris Rogerson (b. 1988). In River Songs\, Rogerson recalls family trips to Stehekin\, WA\, capturing its distinct topography and sense of nostalgia. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tickets\nContact theschaefercenter@appstate.edu\, call 828-262-4046\, visit the box office at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts\, or purchase online. \n  \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $45 Standard$40 App State Faculty/Staff$20 student/child \nAll tickets include NC sales tax.Online sales are subject to ticket fees. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Buy Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Parking\nParking can be challenging\, particularly for sold-out events. SUMMARY:WindSync
DESCRIPTION:A Classic Concert Series Event\nPresenting Sponsorship provided by Bonnie and Jamie Schaefer\, Christine Petti\, and Neil and Nancy SchaffelPrincipal Sponsorship provided by App State Campus Store\, Broyhill Family Foundation\, Catsman Foundation\, and Mast General Store \n \n \n \n \n \n Over nearly two decades of performing\, WindSync has proven itself “a major force in the American chamber music landscape” (Arts and Culture Texas)\, leaping from prizewinning Concert Artists Guild and Fischoff performances to the stages of Carnegie Hall\, the Library of Congress\, Metropolitan Museum of Art and more. Breaking the “fourth wall” between performers and audience\, WindSync’s dynamic performance style incorporates memorization and storytelling to showcase the expressive range of the flute\, oboe\, clarinet\, French horn and bassoon. \nThe quintet brings Boone a summery set of classical music with an American accent\, inflected with folk\, jazz and minimalism. Also featured is Mozart’s Serenade in C minor\, a dramatic masterpiece of classical music. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tickets\nContact theschaefercenter@appstate.edu\, call 828-262-4046\, visit the box office at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts\, or purchase online. \n  \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $45 Standard$40 App State Faculty/Staff$20 student/child \nAll tickets include NC sales tax.Online sales are subject to ticket fees. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Buy Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Parking\nParking can be challenging\, particularly for sold-out events. Praised for his “melodic precision\, harmonic erudition\, and elegant restraint” (The New York Times)\, Diehl is increasingly recognized as a singular voice whose work moves freely across genres while remaining grounded in historical awareness. He has worked extensively with figures such as Tyshawn Sorey\, Timo Andres\, Philip Glass\, and Cécile McLorin Salvant\, forging projects that span concerti\, chamber music\, orchestral works\, and jazz performance. In 2023\, Diehl was named as the Artistic Director of 92NY’s Jazz in July Festival\, succeeding the legendary Bill Charlap. \nProgram selections include (subject to change): \nFrom the Southland\, Harry T.
