The Schaefer Center is a 1,660-seat multi-use auditorium that features orchestra and balcony level seating and a proscenium stage. Concessions are sold in the lobby and can be brought into the theatre. The Schaefer Center is also home to An Appalachian Summer Festival’s box office. Rosen Concert Hall is a 440-seat hall designed specifically for concerts and recitals, and is also well suited for solo performances.

Valborg Theatre is a 334-seat modified thrust performance venue. The furthest seat from the edge of the stage is 40’ away. The theatre is located directly behind the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts.

Kidd Brewer Stadium, nicknamed “The Rock,” is a multipurpose stadium that is the home of the Appalachian State Mountaineers football team.

The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts is the largest facility of its kind in the region. The center presents exhibition, education and collection programs that support the university’s role as a key educational, cultural and service resource. Venue policies

An Appalachian Summer Festival visitors must adhere to both the ticket policy and policies outlined for each respective venue.

General venue policies

The following policies apply to all App State venues unless otherwise stated.

  • No cameras or recording devices.
  • All ages need a ticket.
  • Late arrivals will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager.
  • Though we are a seated venue, at certain performances concertgoers may choose to stand and dance at their seat.

Individual venue policies

Schaefer Center Policies

The health and safety of our audiences, artists and staff is of paramount importance to us. For that reason, we have adopted policies and procedures consistent with guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and Appalachian State University.

These policies and procedures, which are outlined below, are temporary and will apply to all events presented by the Office of Arts & Cultural Programs (OACP), including all events scheduled at the Schaefer Center and other venues. We realize that these changes will involve some level of inconvenience for our patrons in the short term. However, surveys of our audiences have confirmed their willingness to accommodate these changes in the interest of public safety. We are grateful for your cooperation and understanding.

Ticketing and seating

  • Tickets are available online, by phone and in-person at the Schaefer Center Box Office.
  • Seating has been redesigned and configured in pods of two, four and six to maximize seating opportunities and to maintain proper social distancing to provide safety and comfort for all patrons. The Box Office staff will strive to accommodate special seating requests, but seating availability is limited.
  • Touch-free ticketing procedures will be utilized to minimize contact between ticket buyers and staff. Patrons can print their tickets at home by accessing their ticket inventory linked in their confirmation email, or the Box Office staff can assist anyone with seating prior to the show. No physical tickets available at Will Call.
  • In the event of a performance cancellation, patrons will be offered the choice to either receive a credit for the full value of their tickets (to be applied to another event) or a full refund.
  • In an effort to encourage patrons who are feeling ill or have been exposed to someone who is ill to stay home, the Schaefer Center is making all tickets fully refundable, right up until the time of the performance.

Facility policies

  • The air filtration system at the Schaefer Center has been upgraded in recent years to optimize airflow and to ensure a safe environment for all who attend events in the venue.
  • University housekeeping staff will diligently adhere to enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols, observed prior to, during, and after each event. On days when two shows are scheduled, a thorough cleaning of the facility will take place between events.
  • Hand sanitation stations will be available throughout the facility.

On the night of the show

  • For those who have not been vaccinated, the use of masks, covering the nose and the mouth, is required. In accordance with NC state guidelines, the use of masks covering the nose and the mouth is strongly encouraged for all audience members attending large public events.
    All patrons, artists and staff are asked to maintain a six-foot distance at all times in common areas.
  • Audiences entering and leaving performance venues will be asked to utilize entrance and egress procedures that minimize group contact.
  • Doors will open 30 minutes prior to performances. Patrons are encouraged to go directly to their seats and refrain from gathering in the lobby. The use of the lobby will be limited to contact with box office staff and the use of restrooms.
  • There will be no intermission for events.
  • Concessions will not be available for indoor events, but patrons are welcome to bring a water bottle. No glass, please. No other outside food/beverages are permitted.
  • In an effort to promote “touch-free” communication, there will be no distribution of a printed program. Posters will be on site featuring a QR code to read all about the festival events and artists in this year’s interactive digital playbill.
  • Parking is available in the Peacock Lot across Rivers Street, the Stadium Parking Lot behind the Center, or the Rivers Street and College Street parking decks.
  • No photography or video is allowed, with the exception of written permission exclusively for media by the Marketing Dept.

Parking

  • Schaefer Center patrons may use any available parking lot on campus. Parking is free after 7pm on weekdays, and at all times on weekends.
  • Suggested parking:
    • Peacock Parking Lot (located directly across the street from the Schaefer Center)
    • Blue Ridge Parking Deck (located behind the Schaefer Center, across from Stadium Drive)
    • Covered parking at Rivers Street and College Street parking decks (located approximately½ mile from the Schaefer Center)

Bag inspection

The Schaefer Center staff reserves the right to inspect bags, purses, backpacks and other items being carried into the venue by visitors and audience members. Patrons entering the venue with items prohibited by the facility (weapons of any kind, illegal drugs, or outside food/beverage items, including alcohol) will be asked to remove the prohibited item(s) and relocate it before gaining entry into the facility. If a patron chooses not to undergo a bag inspection, or to remove a prohibited item to another location, the patron will not be allowed access to the facility and a ticket exchange (for an event on another date) will be offered.

State Farm Road Concert Lot Event Policies

Ticketing and seating

  • Tickets are available online, by phone and in-person at the Schaefer Center Box Office.
  • Bring your own lawn chair. Patrons can bring blankets as well, but please note the ground is a paved parking lot, not grass.
  • In the event of a performance cancellation, patrons will be offered the choice to either receive a credit for the full value of their tickets (to be applied to another event) or a full refund. This does not apply to any complimentary or free tickets.

Facility policies

  • Restrooms available onsite
  • Extra security for parking and other safety protocols available

On the night of the show

  • Concerts will be held rain or shine. No umbrellas permitted. Rain jackets and ponchos are recommended.
  • Bring your own lawn chairs.
  • Gates will open at 6pm (90 minutes prior to performances); concert at 7:30pm.
  • Limited parking is available onsite; pre-paid parking ticket must be purchased in advance. if the lot is full, patrons will be directed by event staff to adjacent overflow parking sites. The concert venue is accessible via the Greenway walking path.
  • There will be no intermission.
  • Concessions will be available via onsite food trucks. Snacks and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will also be sold at various tents. No outside food and beverage, including alcohol, is permitted.
  • Only bags that are clear plastic and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”, or one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags, are permitted. An Appalachian Summer Festival-branded clear bags will be available for purchase at entry points for $10 each. Other App Summer merchandise and apparel will also be available for sale at these tents. Small pouches are permitted.

Prohibited items

  • Pop-up tents, canopies, umbrellas, totems or anything that could obstruct the view of those behind you.
  • Pets (except for service animals)
  • Wagons
  • Fireworks and explosives
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Laser pointers
  • Drugs or illegal substances
  • Coolers, purses, backpacks, mesh bags, tote bags, diaper bags, or camera cases

Kidd Brewer Stadium Event Policies

Ticketing and seating

  • Tickets are available online, by phone and in-person at the Schaefer Center Box Office (Mon-Sat 9am-5pm)
  • Seating has been designed in pods of two, four and six to maximize seating opportunities and maintain proper social distancing to provide safety and comfort for all patrons. The Box Office staff will strive to accommodate special seating requests, but seating availability is limited.
  • Touch-free ticketing procedures will be utilized to minimize contact between ticket buyers and staff. Patrons can print tickets at home by accessing their ticket inventory linked in their confirmation email, or the Box Office staff can assist anyone with seating just prior to the show. No physical tickets available at Will Call.
  • In the event of a performance cancellation, patrons will be offered the choice to either receive a credit for the full value of their tickets (to be applied to another event) or a full refund.
  • In an effort to encourage patrons who are feeling ill or have been exposed to someone who is ill to stay home, the Schaefer Center is making all tickets fully refundable, right up until the time of the performance.

    • West Gate for stadium and floor seat ticket holders
    • Mark E. Ricks Athletics Center for VIP and club suite holders
  • Walk-up ticket sales available at Kidd Brewer Stadium Box Office beginning at 9:30am.
  • Gates open at 6pm, concert at 8pm.
  • Concert will be held rain or shine.
  • Chairs will be provided for patrons who purchased floor seating.

In accordance with NC state guidelines, the use of masks covering the nose and the mouth is strongly encouraged for all audience members attending large public events. Patrons, artists and staff are asked to maintain a six-foot distance whenever possible.

  • Parking available in the Stadium Parking Deck, Peacock Parking Lot on Rivers Street, and adjacent stadium parking. Directional signage will be visible.

  • Only clear plastic bags that do not exceed 12”x6”x12”, or one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags, are permitted. An Appalachian Summer Festival-branded clear bags available to purchase for $10 next to the Kidd Brewer Stadium Box Office.
  • No photography or video

Alcohol

Those who choose to consume alcohol must be able to present a valid driver’s license or photo ID to reflect their age upon request. Spirituous liquor, kegs, common containers and glass containers are not permitted in any location. Consumption of alcoholic beverages and tailgating in stadium lots is prohibited. No outside alcohol is permitted in Kidd Brewer Stadium.

ATMs

There are no ATMs available inside the stadium. ATMs are available on campus at the following locations: Trivette Hall, Plemmons Student Union, Rivers St. (across from the parking deck.)

Bag-check policy

All persons and bags (including purses, pouches, backpacks, etc.) are subject to search as a condition of admission into Kidd Brewer Stadium. Searches are voluntary, and you may decline to be searched without penalty. However, if you declineto be searched, you CANNOT enter the stadium and your ticket will NOT be refunded.

Concessions

The concession stands located throughout Kidd Brewer Stadium offer a variety of options and menus for fans. No outside food and beverages are permitted.

Customer service

The customer service booth is located on the stadium’s west side, top of the hill coming into the stadium.

Evacuation

In case of evacuation, instructions will be given over the public address system. Event staff will assist fans to appropriate exits.

Exiting after event

Guests will leave the stadium via the main gates.No access to the track or field will be allowed. Also, no traffic will be allowed to access Stadium Drive from Rivers Street for 45 minutes after the conclusion of the event.

First aid

First aid is located behind section 217 and 218 of the east side. An ambulance is parked outside both the east and west gates to provide service if necessary. Medical personnel are also located on the west side plaza.

Inclement weather

In the event of inclement weather, all guests will be advised that it is in their best interest to seek shelter. Emergency instructions will be delivered via the public address system and the message boards when possible.

Lost children

Parents/guardians with a lost child should contact the nearest police officer or event staff member. That person will then contact the proper personnel to ensure the quickest response to the situation. If a child gets separated from his/her party, he/she should notify the nearest police officer or event staff member. If the child knows his/her seat location, attempts will be made to return the child to that location.

Lost and found

During the game you may check the customer service booth for lost items. After the game, all unclaimed items are turned over to the App State Police Department (828-262-2150)

Merchandise

An Appalachian Summer Festival merchandise will be sold at stands (University Bookstore) located on the stadium’s east and west side.

Prohibited items

All carried items and entrants are subject to search. Prohibited items will be discarded. Any unlawful items are subject to confiscation and the person in possession of such items is subject to arrest.

  • No Alcoholic beverages
  • No Coolers or containers
  • No Weapons of any kind and explosives
  • No Food & beverages
  • No Pets (except for service animals)
  • No Umbrellas
  • No Artificial noisemakers

Recycling

The “Recycling at the Rock” program promotes recycling to encourage recycling on our campus. Please make a conscious effort to utilize recycling containers that are placed throughout campus and Kidd Brewer Stadium. Thanks for your commitment to the environment.

Re-entry policy

There is no re-entry to Kidd Brewer Stadium except for medical or other emergency situations.

Smoking

As of June 1, 2008, smoking is prohibited in and within a 50-foot perimeter of all Appalachian State University facilities, including Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Trash

Help keep our campus beautiful by participating in “Clean Up After Yosef.” Please dispose of all trash in the provided bins and dumpsters.
